In 2015, when I went to Cuetzalan for the first time, as a supervisor of the Bachelor fieldwork course, I got intrigued by this pre-colombian ‘dance’. In 2016 I came back to make a reportage, at first instance for the Magazine Immaterieel Erfgoed. When my boyfriend came to visit me at the end of the student-project, we traveled back to the region to assist a local patron feast in the neighboring non-touristy town of Xilocochico. Although it was a nice reportage, in terms of a photo-reportage it felt incomplete. In 2017 I visited Cuetzalan again, and finally I was able to shoot the missing photos. To my great surprise Al Jazeera was willing to publish the story!
