Guayaquil resilient city CARE

The city of Guayaquil, Ecuador is among world’s top-ten cities most vulnerable to climate change. In collaboration with the municipality of Guayaquil I carried out an assignment for CARE Netherlands, reporting on how this dynamic port-city is preparing for natural disasters and managing risk-reduction. With the initial help of CARE local brigades have been founded in marginal informal neighbourhoods, actively empowering inhabitants to be resilient to floods, earthquakes and fires. Huge admiration for the Department of Risk Management of the municipality of Guayaquil, ánd the local comités in an ever expanding informal city, where urban planning is challenged by occupations, land-traffickers and unplanned settlements.
